Was about 200 kms to the Gambian border and got there at 1 pm. Leaving Senegal was quick and easy, stamped out and then customs gave me some paperwork and it took less than ten minutes.
From all my research The Gambia visa is free on arrival for SA. Well turns out it costs $112. I argued with the immigration guy and showed him but noways and I had to pay for a clearance letter, which i had not heard of. On a US passport you don'tpay for a clearance letter so I used my US passport. Paid the $112 and got visa and a receipt and then went to customs ,showed them the Sengalese customs paper and they stamped it and left. Have no idea what it's for but showed it at two police checkpoints and they waved me on.
So Ghana and Benin are also free VOA so will see, but seems US passport is better to travel with than a SA passport, go figure.
THE GAMBIA :
VISA USA $112 ( 70000 CFA)
PASSAVANT DID NOT GET
INSURANCE ECOWAS
SA VISA = $112 + CLARANCE LETTER
Rode another 100kms east to Wassau and am at Reliable Guest House.
Another very poor country that is sanwiched between Senegal, mud huts and farming along the river but at least they speak English here in the smallest country on the continent.
