THE GAMBIA - BANJUL DAY 223 327km 11-12-24

WASSAU TO BANJUL     SLOW AND HOT

Breakfast was yet another first for me, scrambled eggs in a roll, you just never know, luckily it was not their traditional breakfast, Churra gerte which is like porridge of boiled peanuts and rice with milk.

   Crossing the Gambia River

The daily struggle these poor folk have to deal with is unimaginable.

The ferry is 20kms east of Wassau, then went west for 300kms to Banjul, the Capital.

Breakfast of Gambians at Reliable Guest House Wassau.

Just up the road is yet another UNESCO Heritage Site, The Circle of Stones. That was about all the excitement I could take for the day and then left for Banjul which unbeknownst to me has a bad reputation of sex tourism, which is creepy and sick.
The road passes through many villages with speed bumps and numerous police checkpoints and in-between military checkpoints. Nothing really to see, no mountains or hills  and the road has large overgrown bushes on either side the entire way where cattle will suddenly appear from. It was slow going with all the goats and villages and I rode through 90% of the checkpoints if the police weren't on the road signaling me to stop, I could see them sitting in the shade and am sure they were happy not to be disturbed.

Arriving into town it was another level of choas navigating through the people and traffic finally arriving at Boli Boli Guest House. Got a decent room en suite for €25 close to the beach where all the grannies come from England to get laid by some young local guy known as the " bumster ". Not a pretty sight and then I went to a restaurant for supper and all these old guys are there with there young local girls, rather repulsive and creepy.
