KIRKJUBÆJARKLAUSTUR DAY 95

Stayed another day due to the rain.

DAY  96  TO  FOSSARDDALUR    351 km.

Had to leave today to get to the ferry on Thursday, so rode out at 7am ,my earliest start in Iceland. Luckily no rain or wind today but it was cold 7*C for the best part of the day and had low clouds. So got a glimpse of the glaciers but nothing like I was hoping for which was disappointing. Stopped at some touristy lake spots and Diamond Beach which was nothing special.

I took a dirt road for 18km following some guide taking tourists somewhere, turns out it was an ice cave. I asked a guide if I could borrow some crimpons and so I joined hos group of 12 Chinese. It was real lame and would have been livid to have to drive thirty minutes there and pay for the walk which took five minutes through some ice, but no cave.

Hiked there in all my gear

That is all 500 year old ice, where we walked on the Glacier to the cave.

    Diamond Beach

Continued on to a Höfn where I grabbed some coffee and then on up the coast to the orange lighthouse, they are all orange, matching the colours on my bike, helmet, riding gear and Garmin Montana 650, the Dutchies would love it.

Got to camp just after five and set up, dried my tent again and it is the best campground so far with great showers, for free and the kitchen area is huge.

It ain't to miss those spectacular glaciers, but that's how the cookie crumbles. Tomorrow my last day here, weather is meant to be fair with no rain so am hoping to see some vistas and then end up at the ferry ort for the night.
